Well the first day of Fall is upon us. The leaves are turning, the Harvest is ready, the birds are forming large V's and heading south for the winter. The world is full of wonderful colors of red, gold, orange....
That is if you live somewhere else besides south Texas! I personally would love to see nature another color besides dead yellow/brown this time of year. I would love to know what a harvest time looks like. It has been drought time here for so long that the only green I see is the John Deere tractors in The pasture behind us.
I do have to admit though it has gotten slightly cooler. It is no longer in the high 90's it is dipping into low 90's and high 80's now. On the plus side, no one is covering their swimming pools yet, because we probably have another good month of outdoor water time.
The crazy thing is that we can look forward to the brown dead look until about March when Spring is in full bloom again. At this rate it will be shorts and T-shirts at Thanksgiving and Christmas.
If you can't tell by now, Rain is so desperately needed, that people were praying for Hurricane Ike to hit farther south....no matter the damage done. At church we have been praying for rain for over a year now, and many of our rancher friends are looking for new places to dig wells for watering the cattle. I hope that these prayers are answered before to many ranches have to go under because they cannot keep cattle watered and still make a profit.
