Well it is official this award goes to me today, because I have made my 12 yr old walk a week on a fractured foot. I have ignored her complaints all week long, and insisted she stop being a drama queen just because she twisted her ankle a little bit. Here is how it went down...Last week we went to watch The UT/Texas Tech game at friends of ours house where Regan insisted on getting to wrestle with John Mark on the floor just like her sister and friend were getting too. About three minutes into the girls VS. John Mark wrestling session Regan burst into tears and told us her ankle hurt. Well I placed her on the couch with me and took a look at it. Nothing swollen bruised, not, or otherwise abnormal....as far as I was concerned she was fine. John Mark carried her to the car when we left because it was still hurting.
The next day we were getting ready for church, and she is still complaining about her ankle. we are convinced she twisted it, and of course all being from athletic backgrounds we know the best thing to do is walk on it and work it out. Even on Monday when her Physical Therapist looked at it, she said it was probably twisted. All week long we have made her walk in her walker from classes, do her tap class, saw two therapists..and even by the end of the week she was walking better, but still complaining that it hurt.
Finally, last night we were settling in for a movie, and I was taking off her braces, socks, and shoes, and her foot was swollen...for the first time. This morning it was still swollen, so we dusted off her wheelchair, and took her to get x-rayed, and off to our family doctor. Where he took one look and announced a small fracture in the bone. In fact he said it was already beginning to heal itself, but she was to stay off her feet through Thanksgiving, and she would not need a cast or anything else, just to take it easy and let it heal.
Anyone else need a bad mom award and want to suffer in misery with me? I am in such guilt right now it is awful!
