
We are among the thousands of families who have given up the traditional Oven Roasted Turkey in favor of Deep Fried...absolute yumminess. John Mark and I had been married for about two years, when I had heard rumors and whispers of people deep frying turkeys. I had at the time assumed it was a Louisiana or East Texas Cajun thing. Then we had the opportunity to taste it for ourselves, and we decided to join the others who are bucking tradition.
John Mark is in charge of all meat for Thanksgiving (isn't he the cutest?) and that includes ribs, brisket, sausages, and deep fried Turkey. I am in charge of turkey prep. Now there are a lot of people who will swear by injections and all kinds of "fancy" stuff, but I love the natural flavor of the meat so I don't do this.
I get one small box of Bisquick and add salt, pepper, cayenne, garlic powder, and paprika to it. After cleaning out the insides, I pat down the turkey with my Bisquick mixture. Then it gets sent to John Mark. He fries it in peanut oil at about 350 degrees. You fry it for 3 minutes per pound of turkey. When you pull it out you have a wonderfully crispy coated skin, and the juiciest turkey you just wouldn't believe.
