I am not a Brace Face

On Monday while I was busy with Regan getting her x-rays on her foot and finding out about her fracture....My other darling Rebecca, was getting her braces off. Hooray! One less bill at our house now. But seriously, Last year we had noticed that her teeth were funky looking coming in not quite straight. She had also started doing that whole "Mona Lisa" smile thing with her mouth closed. She said her teeth were so ugly that she didn't want to smile anymore. That just broke my heart, because good self-esteem is on the road to being a ruler of all she sees well-rounded child.

Our first trip to the Orthodontist confimed that her mouth was too small for all of her permanent teeth that were trying to push their way in. So basically they were coming in on top of each other. The Orthodontist put an expander in her mouth, and then in February she got her braces. Now not even a year later her teeth have been streched along her gums to properly fit in any new permanent teeth coming her way, and since she has two loose ones at the moment, we hope to see them fall into place exactly where we have paid for them they should be.

To help keep things in order she also got a retainer, and they look nothing like those big pink ugly plastic things I can remember. Rebecca picked out a zebra stripe with her name on it in hot pink. It is actually quite trendy and fun...who knew?

Did anyone of my readers have to wear the ugly big pink retainers, huge metal braces that you were in fear of lip-lock with your boyfriend, or the night gear alien looking stuff? Really please share all your horror stories to the delight fascination of all my readers.
