If I'm a nut...can it be pistachio?


Well I am very proud of myself for eating better this month as part of my New Years Resolutions and because I finally went and got my root canal done I can honestly say I am listening to my body and making better choices. I thought of course my next big day of ruin would be Valentine's Day and all that chocolate that John Mark usually spoils me with....but I had forgotten about one of the biggest snack days for us SUPER BOWL SUNDAY!

Every year we go to our good friends the Morris Family along with about 40 other friends that we typically hang out with. The kids all run around and the Men gather around a projector screen and a BBQ pit. The women gather in the kitchen naturally around all the snacks and desserts that we all bring as potluck. I guarantee I can gain five pounds in a single evening if I am not prepared. Luckily this year I am coming armed with my favorite snack to try and keep myself on track.

Pistachios

Here is why they are currently my weight loss snack of choice:
  • About 30 pistachios are a 100 calorie snack
  • They are heart healthy and absorb cholesterol
  • They are filling and you will snack less if you start with these.
  • They have protein and fiber and and leave you satisfied
  • You actually slow down your eating by having to "shell" them
So while my snack to bring may not be the most fattening snack at the super bowl party, I am not bringing them to win a popularity contest. Hopefully I can help a few of my friends stay on the healthy track along with me, and still have a wonderful time with my family and friends enjoying the game.
